The first of three related chemicals that are found in the odours of several fruits. This one is distinctively pineapple in character, though it is present naturally in the scents of many other fruits too, including grapefruit, mango, strawberry and orange juice (but it is not in orange essential oil).
CAS Number: 105-54-4
Full chemical name: ethyl butanoate
It is extremely diffusive and very powerful – so you don’t need to use much – adding freshness and lift to floral and oriental fragrances including some very famous names indeed. Try adding a small amount of this material to a fragrance containing Fructalate to make a simple pineapple accord or add some to jasmine to give it a fresher, sharper feeling.
