Hop Essential Oil

Hop Essential Oil

Hop is probably most famous as a flavouring and stability agent in beer and is related to the hemp family. On the Hop plant we find the hops, stunning looking flower clusters that are picked, dried and steam distilled to give us the Hop essential oil. The colour is clear to pale yellow and I would describe the smell as clean, sweet, and somewhat herbal and vegetative. The consistency is water like and I am proud to say this is English material.
Botanical Name: Humulus Lupulus

Origin: England

This is said to be a useful aid to helping people with nervous tension, in the same breath it is also best to be kept away from anyone who is feeling depressed! Slightly contradictory don’t you think!

Therapeutically we have ourselves a chemistry which is not overly common compared to other essential oils, and therefore it does have real value to an aromatherapist and the safe way to go forward is just make sure you use low doses and dilute well with carrier oil. Should the patient have any adverse reaction you stop use and feel safe in the knowledge effects will wear off within a few hours.

This blends well with other therapeutic super oils such as the helichrysum and all variants of lavender I offer and added to carriers and especially parabens & formaldehyde free creams may be very beneficial for getting dermatitis under control.
