Despite all the ‘Lime’ references made about Linden Blossom Absolute it actually has no connection with Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia, family Rutaceae). Looking at the history of the tilia/linden tree I see that the Americans amongst other countries refer to the tilia tree as lime tree.
However us Brits refer to it as ‘linden tree’. Both names are derived from the Germanic root lind.

Origin: France

Botanical Name: Tilia x Vulgaris

Linden is obtained by distillation of the linden flowers/blossoms of the Tilia tree, which grows mainly across the UK, mainland Europe and North America.

The flowers are an aromatic, mucilaginous herb with diuretic, expectorant and calming properties, lowering blood pressure and increasing perspiration. Apart from the mucilage, the flowers also contain phenolics - pro-anthocyanidins, gallocatechol tannins and phenolic acids, while the sapwood contains phenolics and polyphenols.
.
The flowers are traditionally used for hypertension, their general sedative effect, calming the digestive system, as well as to relieve headache and migraine complaints.

The sapwood is used to reduce high blood pressure and calming the stomach. It is used externally for itchy skin complaints.

As someone who does not drink any tea products (or coffee products) I came to unearth the flowers are used in the making of a linden tea, which apparently is a very popular drink across Europe, it is also said to help with treating insomnia and nervous tension.

Did you know the worlds most expensive honey is made from Linden Blossom.

Please note our Linden like all our oils and absolutes is the real deal. As such it is a very thick, gunky almost solid material that will require quite a bit of patience to work with – I would only recommend this to those that have experience using this material.

Blends well with Benzoin, Jasmin, Rose, Ylang Ylang.
